Manly lies on the northern side of the entrance to Sydney Harbour. It sits on an isthmus of sand separating the calm waters of the harbour to the south and the open ocean to the north.

The Ocean Beach of Manly is the first of the eighteen or so Northern Beaches of Sydney. Thirty kilometres (18 miles) away lies Palm Beach and Pittwater.

To the west are vast areas of National Park and bushland. To the east the South Pacific Ocean fringed with fine sandy beaches punctuated by bold sandstone headlands. The sand is yellow/white in the south, becoming progressively more golden as you travel north.
